1. Translations from English into German
As an economist and experienced linguist, I translate a wide variety of business texts, including annual reports, codes of ethics, contracts, e‑learning texts, surveys, instructional videos, newsletters, advertising copy, and press releases. I routinely use specialist terminology from various fields, such as the automotive, environmental, financial, IT, and medical industries. Whether translated from scratch or with machine assistance, each text is meticulously checked for accuracy.
2. Editing of these translations
Proofreading
Proofreading is an option when you are completely confident in the content and style of a translation (both of which will not be reviewed) and only require a check for linguistic issues such as spelling, grammar, syntax, hyphenation, punctuation, spacing, and typographical errors. It is the minimum treatment for translations intended for publication and is often the final step in the layout phase.
Full editing
Although more time-consuming and expensive, having a translation fully edited is usually a worthwhile investment. Full editing ensures that the content and intent of a translation are consistent with its source file. It involves improving the clarity, conciseness, flow, and style of the translation; eliminating unnecessary anglicisms; and checking for consistency in terminology and the use of company-preferred phrases. All these changes are followed by a final proofreading, which is included in the price.
3. Post-editing of English-German machine translations
Light post-editing (LPE)
Light post-editing focuses on ensuring clarity and comprehensibility, correcting mistranslations, and correcting major grammatical issues. It does not aim for stylistic perfection. The goal is to produce a translation that is “fit for purpose” – for quick, informative personal or intra-office use rather than for publication.
Full post-editing (FPE)
Full post-editing aims to refine machine translation output to a level that matches the quality of human translation. This involves thorough editing for accuracy, style and consistency to make the text suitable for large-scale publication. Use cases for full post-editing include marketing materials, legal documents and all types of media and literary content.
4. Editing of any German business texts
The above editing services are also available for translations of non-English business texts into German, and for monolingual German business texts. For the former, my service covers only linguistic aspects, though. It does not include checking and synchronizing the content of the source and target documents. This would have to be done by a qualified native speaker of the source language.
